Founding Director, TReNDS Center
Georgia State · Georgia Tech · Emory
Dr. Vince Calhoun is the founding director of the TReNDS Center, the tri-institutional Georgia State University / Georgia Institute of Technology / Emory University Center for Translational Research in Neuroimaging and Data Science, and one of the world’s foremost experts in brain imaging analysis. His own research focuses on developing techniques for making sense of complex brain imaging data, integrating multiple modalities to understand both the healthy and the disordered human brain, and creating algorithms that map dynamic networks of brain function, structure, and genetics, including how these are affected by cognitive tasks and in conditions such as schizophrenia. Under his leadership, TReNDS pursues a broader mission of developing, applying, and sharing advanced analytic approaches and neuroinformatics tools that leverage advanced brain imaging and omics data, with the goal of translating these approaches into biomarkers that can help address brain health and disease, grounded in large-scale data sharing and multimodal data fusion. His decades of work on multimodal neuroimaging algorithms, data fusion, and large-scale collaborative tools, including the predecessor platform COINSTAC, laid the direct foundation for NeuroFLAME. His vision of enabling large-scale, privacy-preserving neuroscience research across institutions is what NeuroFLAME is built to realize.
