Professor of Computer Science
Georgia State University
Dr. Sergey Plis is a Professor of Computer Science at Georgia State University, with a background spanning engineering, artificial intelligence, and computer science. His research focuses on developing computational instruments that enable knowledge extraction from observational multimodal data collected at different temporal and spatial scales, with the human brain as his primary application, treating neurons and measured voxels as interacting agents whose networks carry information about mental state, disorders, and individual differences. Drawing from machine learning and data science, his work spans multimodal pattern recognition, inference, predictive modeling, tracking, and causal learning, including inferring probabilistic and causal descriptions of function-induced brain networks by fusing fast and slow imaging modalities, deep learning–based feature estimation, and learning causal graphical models. Sergey leads NeuroFLAME’s computational and machine learning efforts, ensuring the platform’s federated algorithms are both scientifically rigorous and practically deployable across research sites.
